I really think it’s time that we retired the negative view of humanity that’s become so popular in society and in storytelling, wherein it’s believed that human people are inherently selfish, inherently violent and ultimately inherently evil, and that they can only be made to be good if their collective arm is twisted by law enforcement, religion or other social controls. It’s so much like the concept of Original Sin™, this idea that humanity is a plague upon the Earth that does little else but fuck everything up unless it struggles and strives under some convenient yoke of rule or employment, to prove itself better than a base, animalistic monster and I’m fucking sick of it.
This selfish, violent and ultimately evil behaviour is exhibited almost exclusively by a very specific subset of humanity, with that being the most wealthy and privileged amongst us. The rest of us, the vast majority of the human race, do not, in fact, turn into vicious beasts when we’re faced with adversity, and time and time again, you’ll see the common folk reaching out with courage and compassion to help each other, to help complete strangers, more often than not, whenever disaster strikes. That is the true nature of human beings, and I’m sick, sick to the back teeth of having that reality be repeatedly denied.
The instant you accept this lie that you’re naturally selfish, naturally violent and naturally evil, you open yourself up to complacency and laziness, give yourself an excuse to be selfish, violent and evil. It’s only human nature, after all! You can’t change human nature! Do better, you fucking sack. Stop leaning on this comfortable deception you’ve been fed. You’re a human being, god damn it, and that means you have an obligation to your fellow people, whether those people are like you or not!
Humanity has only succeeded for this long by offering and accepting help to and from others. That is our nature. Don’t believe the bullshit.
Marie Kondo: don’t hold onto books if you don’t enjoy them
Book nerds on Twitter: this is an attack on me personally actually
I love book nerd vs. Marie Kondo crap because she thinks that it’s silly to just keep books because you want to impress hypothetical people who might possible come into your house and notice what a smart person you are to own smart person books that you didn’t even like.. And there are people who are forced to confront how much that is their entire personality.
i have to tell you something that will lower your entire opinion of me
when i was 12 i made flyers for my fanfiction and handed them out a train station
im blown away by the sheer confidence this act required. if anything my opinion has been raised. the poise. the fearlessness. the laughing in the face of death. i’m speechless
